The primary objective of the Turbomachinery Committee is to promote the interchange and publication of technical information pertinent to the aero/thermodynamics of turbomachines and related components. This includes all aspects of performance limitations, design, analysis, and experimental confirmation of predictions. All types of turbomachinery are of interest, but principal attention is given to axial-flow and centrifugal/radial-flow compressors and turbines, which are the primary components of gas turbine engines.
Although the main focus is in the area of aero/thermodynamics, the concerns of this Committee include structural loading that is aerodynamic in origin, and aerostructural interactions, such as flutter. Turbine cooling studies that are directed primarily at defining aerodynamic losses (rather than just heat transfer), and acoustical studies that focus on blade-noise generation, are also of interest. Turbomachinery computational fluid mechanics is another area of Committee activity.
