Coal, Biomass & Alternative Fuels Committee

The mission of the Coal, Biomass & Alternative Fuels Committee is to provide a single focal point to promote the understanding and advancement of technologies needed to convert and use coal, biomass and alternate fuels in energy production. The intent is to involve the committee in any and all cycles or systems which can use these fuels for power generation and attendant by-product energy recovery for other purposes within the gas turbine and associated technology community.

Fuels considered by this community shall include, but not be limited to: coal, biomass, petroleum, coke, crude oil, heavy residual oil, trash, sewage, blast furnace gas, orimulsion, 100% hydrogen, etc.

Development technologies are of interest, as are maturing technologies. For coal, technology issues are related to its high ash and contaminant levels. Biomass presents another set of issues similar to coal. For alternative fuels, there is a whole range of issues depending upon the fuel selected.
