The purpose of the Ceramics Committee is to promote the exchange of information about ceramic technology and its application to gas turbine and other heat engines; to cooperate with other interested groups (both inside and outside IGTI and ASME) at the national and international levels; and to sponsor technical sessions on ceramic technology, its applications and advancements for gas turbine engines.
The Ceramics Committee will have responsibility for ceramic technology in all gas turbine applications (i.e. aircraft, vehicular, industrial, etc.). Areas of responsibility include:
- Components (primary and secondary structural components, hot and cold section applications)
- Design and Analysis (both basic theory and component design)
- Component Testing (individual and groups of components in rigs and/or gas turbine engines)
- Materials (processing, manufacturing, properties, test methods, material characterization -- both monolithic and ceramic matrix composites)
- Coatings (for thermal and ceramic corrosion protection, or friction/wear)
- Nondestructive Evaluation (new or improved methods related directly to ceramic materials)
The Committee will sponsor, organize, and conduct paper sessions and panels at ASME meetings, primarily IGTI meetings. Sessions may also be organized for other ASME meetings. Sessions may often be organized through cooperative joint efforts with other IGTI Technical Committees.
The Committee will cooperate with any other organization sharing a common interest in the promotion of ceramics for applications in gas turbine engines. Examples of such other organizations are: the Microturbines & Small Turbomachinery Committee, the Aircraft Engine Committee, and the Manufacturing Materials & Metallurgy Committee of IGTI; the Society of Automotive Engineers; and the American Ceramic Society.
